First, your words break into pieces.
A model never sees words — it sees tokens: numbered fragments of text. Type anything and watch a sentence shatter into the pieces a model actually reads.

02 · Attention
Then it decides what matters.
For every token, the model looks back at the others and weighs which ones matter most for what comes next. That weighing is called attention.

Attention lets a model weigh which earlier words matter for the one it’s reading — “itself” looks back hard at “robot.” Stack this millions of times and you get a language model.
03 · Prediction
Then it picks what comes next.
All of that becomes a set of probabilities for the next word — and a single dial, temperature, decides how boldly the model chooses between them.
Right now the model is balanced. Temperature decides how boldly it picks the next word — low keeps it safe and likely, high lets it surprise you. Same maths you’ll learn to control.
